COVID-19 Update 5

You will now be aware that, late last night the government published further guidance for schools regarding the emergency childcare provision, which needs to be in place by Monday 23rd March.

I would draw your attention to the document, which can be found at:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

At the very heart of the document are the following key statements.

If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading.

Schools are asked to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.

It is important to underline that schools, colleges and other educational establishments remain safe places for children. But the fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society.

Schools are, therefore being asked to continue to provide care for a limited number of children –children who are vulnerable and children whose parents are critical to the Covid-19 response and cannot be safely cared for at home.

Many parents working in these sectors may be able to ensure their child is kept at home. Every child who can be safely cared for at home should be.

At Richard Taylor School we are totally committed to playing our part in supporting our community to get through this national challenge.

We need everyone to consider the statement above in full and ask if they can in any way follow, its advice had help to stop the spread of this virus as quickly as possible.

Richard Taylor School will be open on Monday for those families whose parents work in the professions identified and who cannot keep their children at home.

The school will be providing childcare for children for as long as we have the staff available to provide this service safely.

In the future parents may need to access childcare at identified hub schools if staffing numbers fall below a critical mass. This will be communicated to all parents requiring ongoing childcare with as much notice as possible. This may be less than 24hrs notice.

I would strongly urge parents to remember previous messages that if your child or any member of your family develops any of the symptoms of COVIS-19 you must not come to school and must self-isolate as a family for 14 days.

Children attending school on Monday will be asked to wear uniform, this has been agreed as a Trust policy to ensure that if pupils are required to attend hub schools in the future, staff will be able to identify specific school groups.

Catering services for school lunches will operate from Monday for those children who need to attend school. We will provide families with regular updates regarding lunch provision beyond next week.

I can confirm that Fun Club will be operating breakfast and afterschool club for children whose parents are within the identified groups. If you are not normally registered with Fun Club and need to use their services next week you will be able to register with them via the school or Fun Club website

Thank you for your support and understanding during difficult and challenging times.

Please see the attached information slip which we are requiring all families who will access school childcare from Monday to complete to help us with our planning. Please return this form via email or by hard copy posted to the school letterbox before Monday to help us build a picture of the critical need before the start of next week

Yours sincerely,

On Monday 23rd March, school will be open to those families who absolutely need to attend as there is no other means of keeping their children safe at home. These families must also be classed as key workers who are critical to the COVID-19 response or part of a specifically identified vulnerable group.

Week Commencing______________________________________________

Please state clearly the critical sector which you belong to _________________________________________________________________________

Please tick which sessions/days you will need your child/ren to be in school so that we can ensure we have appropriate provision and care in place each day. If you could also indicate whether or not you would require a school lunch, along with the before and after school care which Fun Club are able to provide, that would be much appreciated.

We are using this as a guide for provision planning, and as such recognise that it may be subject to last minute changes.
