Headteacher’s Blog

Monday 25th April, 2016

Before looking at the week ahead I want to thank everyone who donated chocolate for the Friends Stall at Bilton Gala on Friday’s non-uniform day. The chocolate has been safely stored away from staff and will help to raise much needed funds on Gala day next Monday. Also we need to congratulate the year 2 footballers who performed brilliantly at their recent Harrogate Town competition and qualified unbeaten for the finals, thanks to all parents who supported the event and to Mrs Saunderson and Miss Hatfield for accompanying the children.

At the start of this week we welcome two French students to Richard Taylor School. Rubens Albenque and Mallory Guyot are both from the south east of France and are here as part of their exchange visit organised by St John Fisher School. This is an annual event and we hope that both Rubens and Mallory enjoy their week with us.

On Monday our assembly will be led by the team from Mellors who will be delivering a healthy eating message to all children. The school council will also be holding their first meeting of the summer term.

We welcome Matthew Lunn to lead our worship on Tuesday afternoon.

After school on Tuesday starting at 6pm we will be holding our assessment information meeting for parents. With so many changes to the way in which schools assess pupils taking place we hope that parents will find this update guide useful. For parents unable to attend we will be putting the presentation slides onto the school website and sending out an additional pamphlet to all parents.

Wednesday will be a noisy morning in school with both Nidderdale and Swaledale classes enjoying the Drums Agogo workshop.

On Thursday we will be holding our special ‘Super Pupil’ celebration in the afternoon. After school on Thursday we will welcome the Methodist Chapel Youth Club for the last time before they move back into their renovated Chapel.

On Friday we will welcome Rev Andrew Patrick who will be visiting school for the first time since his induction earlier this month. Dan Batty the FA football coach will be back delivering sessions to pupils in KS2.

It is great to be able to share the success of past pupils with you and we have two pieces of amazing news. Katie Thompson has been selected to play for Yorkshire in the new T20 ladies cricket super league in 2016, we wish her good luck. Also congratulations to Daniel Corazzi who has been appointed Head Boy at Rossett High School for next year.

Harry Schofield, a current pupil has made it into the next round of the radio 2 writing competition, we will follow his progress with interest.

Finally the start of next week sees the Bilton Gala on the school field on Bank Holiday Monday, if you are coming along don’t forget to look out for the Friends Chocolate Tombola Stall.

Below are photos of the yellow jersey wearers from last week.
