Before we look ahead to a busy week we need to celebrate another success for the school. I am delighted to say that our year 5/6 maths team have won the Harrogate Maths Competition held at Harrogate Grammar School on Friday 23rd February. Sixteen schools from across Harrogate took part in the annual competition and our team won again; this is the 2nd time in 3 years that we have won and I look forward to presenting the trophy to the team when it has been engraved.

Onto the week ahead, on Monday week five of our sports numeracy project will be taking place in the Hall. After school it is week five of the Harrogate Theatre Drama Club. On Tuesday we welcome Claire Bassingdale from St Aidan’s who will be leading PE lessons for some classes whilst after school the Choir will he holding their weekly practice.

On Wednesday Hockey Club and TAG Rugby Club will be held, depending on the weather which is due to be wintery. After school some children from year 5/6 will be heading to Harrogate High School to take part in a dodgeball event in the sports hall.

Thursday is the annual World Book Day. This year we are offering the children the chance to dress up as a famous book character, with prizes for each class winner. We will be holding lots of special activities including a poetry recital competition with every class performing to the rest of the school; we welcome Angela Smith, ASDA’s Community Champion who will be helping to judge the event.

Looking ahead to next week we will turn our focus to Fairtrade Fortnight, officially this starts on 26th February for the rest of the world but we are moving or focus to the following two weeks to avoid a clash with World Book Day. During Fairtrade Fortnight our community ambassadors will be taking part in the 90Kg Rice challenge, when they will be attempting to sell 90Kg of fairtrade rice to support the education of children in Malawi. More information about the challenge can be found in your latest newsletter.

The photo below shows the winners of last week’s yellow jumpers and Dentdale Class who led our worship on the theme of Forgiveness.

In the event of severe weather look out for text messages which will update you with conditions at school.
