Welcome to Science Week 2017 at Richard Taylor School; during the week we have a huge number of trips, visitors and experiences for the children to enjoy and learn through participation with everything focussed on learning through scientific eyes. It should be the most amazing week and I would like to thank Mrs Crisell for organising the week magnificently and to the staff for their hard work in preparing the activities and visits. To give you a flavour of the events we have trips to the Mercer Gallery, Harlow Carr and Fountains Abbey.
We have visits from scientists, polar explorers and the wonderful space dome as well as on line link ups with space scientists and a trip to the laboratories at Harrogate High School.
At the same time there is a full week of other events in school. On Monday afternoon the team from St John’s Church will be launching their Christingle appeal for the Children’s Society. After school the Friends will be holding their last film night of the year for children in KS2.
On Tuesday Claire Bassingdale from St Aidan’s will be working with children supporting PE lessons during the morning. After school children from Yr3/4 will be participating in the Change for Life event at Harrogate Grammar School.
Wednesday morning sees the children from Dentdale and Ribblesdale visiting the wonderful library team at Woodfield Library.
We are slowly gearing up to the Christmas Fair which takes place on Friday 8th December. The chocolate tombola stall is always one of the most popular and on Friday 1st December we will be holding a non-uniform day. There is no theme to the day but we ask that all children bring some chocolate in instead of Money to be used on the tombola stall.
It is not too late to bring in teddies and DVDs for the stalls and any offer of support will be warmly welcomed. It is the biggest fundraiser of the year and the friends have worked incredibly hard to make the day a great success.
The Children in Need Pennies for Pudsey picture created on the 17th November was a fantastic event. Thank you for supporting the project with your pennies. We have delivered the Pennies to ASDA who have agreed to help with the count and announce our total in the next few days.
