Welcome back to the start of a new half term. Before we look ahead to a busy week at school I would like to congratulate the children who took part in the recent Harrogate Junior Chess Championships at the start of half term. Jack Littlefair, George Cole and Dylan Mawhinney all represented the school brilliantly. Special mention to Dylan who came first in the under year 4 category. We will celebrate the children’s achievements in a worship time this week.

This week is a special week in school as we celebrate both World Book Day and Fairtrade Fortnight. On Monday we welcome Rosy Jones to lead our worship on the work of Fair Trade around the world.

If you have not done so yet don’t forget to complete your order form for Fairtrade rice. Every bag sold will be presented in worship time and will come with a Fairtrade sticker.

Also on Monday morning Claire Basssingdale from St Aidan’s will be leading PE lessons for a number of classes. Our Environmental Ambassadors will be meeting Mrs Norton in the afternoon to learn how they can make their plastic eco brick. If you want to find out how you can make your own eco brick please bring your bottle and plastic to our Eco brick evening in the school hall on Wednesday starting at 7pm; refreshments will be on offer as well as advice on how to create your brick. Please note that this is a parent’s only evening.

After school on Monday it is week 8 of our Harrogate Drama After-School Club.

Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday and the day will be marked with a special lunch. Our worship will be led by Andy Patrick at 1.15pm

On Wednesday both Bishopdale and Airedale Classes will be visiting Woodfield Library to enjoy the books on offer. We also welcome Mr Green to lead our whole school worship. After school choir practice will be led by Mrs Wake.

Thursday 7th March is national world book day; every child in school will receive their £1 book voucher and there will be a focus on celebrating books throughout the day. Please note today is not a dressing up day, this happens every two years at RTS.

The children in EYFS and Yr 6 will have their special commemorative photo taken by tempest on Thursday morning. After school on Thursday children from year 5/6 will be taking part in Hockey competitions at Harrogate High School. Back at school it is week 5 of the street dance club led by Mrs Zealand.

On Friday afternoon all of the classes will be enjoying a poetry recital as part of our world book day celebrations. Every class in school will take it in turn to entertain the rest of the school with a poetry performance.

The photograph below shows some of the children enjoying the fantastic space camp which was held in school on the Thursday and Friday before half term.
