We have to start this blog by celebrating the very special event which took place last Friday.

The school was lucky enough to welcome the Olympic Superstar Jonny Brownlee to speak to our children, He had been invited to visit by the children from Dentdale and Ribblesdale Classes and spoke to the children for over an hour answering their questions and showing his Olympic medal. I can speak for everyone when I say that he was a truly inspirational figure who impressed all of the staff with his humility and generosity. The children will remember his visit for ever and hopefully he may have inspired the next generation of Olympic Champions at RTS. You will be able to find photos on the website.

This week is the last week before half term and we are squeezing a lot in before the break. On Monday morning week 3 of the sports numeracy programme will take place in the hall. At 1.15 we welcome Mr Richard Whitely from Woodfield and Bilton Library to launch the community bookmark design competition for 2018. RTS has been chosen to design this year’s bookmark and so look out for the template which will be sent home this week.

On Tuesday Coverdale will be visiting York University to take part in the Space Auto Campus Project. Tuesday is also Safer Internet Day, all of the children in school will be participating in activities to learn more about staying safe. If you would like more information please check out the internet safety page on the school website where there are looks of links to useful websites for all age groups. After school on Tuesday the Friends will be running the Spring Disco for all classes in school.

On Wednesday morning the children from Bishopdale and Airedale will be visiting the Bilton and Woodfield Library. At lunchtime the hockey club will be training. After school it is week two of TAG Rugby Club and week four of Tchouckball at Harrogate High School.

Thursday sees the choir members from year five/six taking part in a recording session at Richard Taylor with a local band, we look forward to hearing the results. After school it is week one of the school chess club.

On Friday we welcome back Ian Johnson from groundworks who will be working with the children from Nidderdale Class planting in the school grounds. In the afternoon we will be holding week two of our tea and cakes reward for those children chosen form every class for excellent behaviour and good manners. The photo below shows the winners of this week’s event. The other photographs are last week’s yellow jumper winners and the sports leaders with Jonny Brownlee.

I hope that you all enjoy half term and I look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday 19th February.
