This is a week where it is difficult to know where to start as there is so much happening and so much to celebrate from last week.
Firstly, we should start by celebrating the achievements of last week where our wonderful agility team participated in a sports festival, photos should be on the website very shortly; special thanks goes to all of the parents who supported the children and to Mrs Phelan for accompanying the team.
We also need to celebrate our ‘Dress as a Pirate Day’ held last Friday when Mr Ward came into school to tell all of the children about his incredible journey from York to Whitby. Thank you to everyone who supported the event. Thanks to your donations we hope to see Mr Ward’s fundraising efforts top £2,500 for the school which is an amazing total.
On Saturday a group of six children from school accompanied by Mr Starkey and myself got the opportunity to attend a special Space Conference at York University and display the work created during last year’s Space Week and meet Tim Peake in person! One of the photos below shows the children meeting their hero.
This week is a very special reading week in school. Events taking place include workshops with the author Edward Traynor, a book quiz and our book fair on Thursday afternoon. On Tuesday after school we will be holding our reading information evening for new parents which starts at 6.30pmin the Hall. Another event taking place includes a cake and storytime event for parents in Bishopdale starting at 2.30pm on Wednesday. I would like to thank Mrs Simpson for all of her efforts in organising what will be a great week.
After school on Monday the friends will be holding their cake sale for this half term.
There are plenty of other things happening in school this week. On Monday morning we will be taking the calendar photos for this year’s Friends calendar, there is no dressing up needed all we need from the children are smiles. In the afternoon on Monday Angela from ASDA will be meeting with our Eco Experts to promote recycling in school.
On Wednesday Airedale Class will be visiting Harlow Carr for their autumn term visit. At school Coverdale will be holding a small cake sale at morning breaktime to raise funds and awareness for the work of the National Autistic Society.
After school on Wednesday the KS2 Indoor Athletics Team will be taking part in the finals of this year’s event. Good luck to everyone taking part.
On Thursday it is our annual book fair in the Hall. Information has been sent out separately regarding the arrangements for the book fair. It is a great way to support the school and get an early Christmas present to send to Father Christmas.
On Friday the children in year 5/6 will be participating in their latest dance workshop with Mrs Zealand. At 11am we will be holding our service of remembrance to mark armistice day; poppies and other items will be available for the children to buy through the week to supporting the work of the Royal British Legion.
In the afternoon on Friday the children from Swaledale and Nidderdale will be enjoying a special Maths afternoon in the Hall.
This week is a great reflection on the wonderful experiences that our children have the opportunities to enjoy at School.
The photos below show yellow jersey winners, KS1 athletes, Mr Ward and our pirate winners and the children meeting Tim Peake.
