15th March 2016

Spring Letter 5

Dear Parents,

I am writing to update everyone regarding the special events taking place in the run up to the end of term.

The last few weeks have included a number of special occasions which have been greatly enjoyed by the children. As well as the fantastic events of Space Week we have also enjoyed World Book Day 2016, Fairtrade Fortnight and an Egyptian Day for children in Nidderdale and Swaledale.

I would like to thank everyone for the way in which they have supported these events at school, we are very aware of the extra time and effort that these events require of parents and staff but the fun enjoyment and learning which results is well worth the effort.

As a school we are also conscious of the events which request donations from parents. The information below will hopefully reflect an awareness of this as we approach the end of term.

Charity Events

On Friday 18th March we will be holding our charity fun run for Sport Relief. This takes place every 2 years and will be held in the afternoon. The target will be to see if the combined efforts of staff and pupils can match the distance to the international space station where Tim Peake is currently based. This is a distance of 250 miles (wish us luck!). Friday will be a non-uniform day with the dress code being sportswear. We are asking for a voluntary donation of £1 to participate in this event which will support the work of Sport Relief in the UK and abroad.

On Tuesday 22nd March we will be inviting the children to ‘Wear a Hat’ to school day. The theme will be Easter related but the children are free to wear any type of hat. This is entirely voluntary and whilst there will be prizes for those who wish to enter into the spirit of the day it remains an entirely voluntary day. The ‘Wear a Hat’ day is a national event to raise awareness of research and fundraising to prevent brain cancer which is one of the most severe forms of cancer for children in the UK. This is a charity close to the heart of a number of staff. There is no charge to wear a hat on this day but any donations, however small, will be gratefully received and passed onto the charity.

Fundraising

Also on Tuesday 22nd March, the friends will be holding their ‘Bunny Bounce’ fundraiser. This is an event which is loved by the children in school and which, thanks to the generosity of parents and families, brings in much needed sponsorship to raise funds for projects in school. Any sponsorship, however small, will make a real difference to the life of the children in school.

We recognise that the way in which these events fall in this year’s diary means that there are 3 fundraising events close together. Each event remains voluntary and we hope that everyone feels able to support one or all of the events which are all very worthwhile.

Easter Service

This year’s Easter Service will take place on Thursday 24th March at St John’s Church starting at 10am. We hope to see you there.

A Symonds
