Welcome to music week at RTS!

This is officially our last week together as Wensleydale Class. Next week, year 6s will be in school with us and year 5s will be transferred onto Wharfedale Seesaw as Mrs Saunderson is then going to post some transition activities for you do so that she can try and get to know a little more about you all ready to start year 6.

The theme this week for all of our activities is music and we are using the BBC Ten Pieces at Home for our lessons and ideas. Throughout the week, we will be using different types of music as a stimulus and even our bodies as musical instruments! Through our learning, we will go on a train ride to any destination we imagine anywhere in the world (or beyond) using the music of Heitor Villa-Lobos and will be playful with poetry.

Did you know that music can create images in your head? With the music of Mason Bates and the BBC Symphony Orchestra as inspiration, we will conjure up a mysterious creature. I am really excited about the things we are going to learn about this week and I hope you will all be too!

There are lots of practical things to do this week and I’m hoping to see your videos as well as some imaginative work. I hope that you have a great musical week and please remember that I always love to see anything at all that you’d like to share. It’s always just great to see what you’ve been up to. Of course if you’d like to sing a song or play an instrument for us this week, that would be fantastic!

I can’t believe how perfectly timed we are with our mental maths book pages!…you should be ready to complete your very last page this week. Anyone would think that I planned it this way!
Most of your maths tasks this week are on ‘My Maths’ and will cover revision on coordinates, translating and reflecting shapes. I hope you enjoy it.

Well done with all of your super contributions to Sports Day last week. It was a great success, with 85% of all pupils at RTS taking part.

Please don’t forget to sign up to the Library Summer Reading Challenge and Bilton Library opens its doors again this week, so that’s great news.

I’ll be in touch throughout the week. I can’t wait to see all year 6s next week and I really wish that year 5s were joining us too. However, I know that all you year 5s will understand that you will be back to our special school in September, whilst the year 6 won’t. Therefore, it’s really important for us to make their last ever week at RTS really special.

Have a great week

Keep safe and take care

Lots of love from Mrs Simpson, Mrs Warby & team
