This week in Wharfedale, we have been doing lots of eventful things, which we will tell you about in this blog. We are also looking forward to World War II day, on Thursday.

M&M Productions

On Monday, we had a very exciting morning. M&M productions came in and performed Aladdin to the whole school. The actors did very well to entertain us and we all enjoyed it very much. If you haven’t seen the film, Aladdin, the story is of an evil man, called Abanarza, who wants the lamp, so he can rule the land. However, when he gets to the cave, he is told to find a boy called Aladdin. Aladdin has a pet called Aboo, who is a monkey, and he is also in love with Princess Jasmine. The story ends with the evil man locked away in the lamp and Aladdin allowed to marry Jasmine. Once again, we all very much enjoyed this show and we are super excited for the next M&M production.

Terrific Scientific

On Friday, we took part in an exciting experiment for Terrific Scientific. They wanted to find out how many people were non-tasters, tasters and super tasters. First, we had to dip a cotton bud into the blue food dye. Then we put it on the first third of our tongue and our partner put a punched piece of paper on the section of blue. We had to count the number of pink bumps we had, known as papillae. The highest was 19 and the lowest was 3. If you would like to find out more, you can go onto the Terrific Scientific or BBC website.

Literacy

This is a tale about Literacy in Wharfedale, did you like our opening? For the last few weeks, we have been learning about King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table and the other knights. But now we are going to write our own Arthur stories after identifying features of other medieval and mythical stories. On Tuesday, we planned a story mountain and yesterday we wrote our opening. We also did our problem and Mrs Saunderson is going to have a lot of work reading our amazing stories!

WW II

Next week, on the 9th, we will be having a special day called World War II day. We will have visitors and will dress up as an evacuee. This will be an excellent experience and we are looking forward to Thursday! We were going to be having it on this Thursday, but the man, who was coming in to help us, had to cancel due to a sudden arrangement. Also we are looking forward to going to Eden Camp later in the year.

Maths

This week, we have been learning about perimeter, area and volume. We did the formula of the perimeter: L+Wx2and for the area there are a few. For a triangle: LxW divide it by 2.
