This week in Wharfedale we have been working to the best of our abilities, doing lots of different subjects.

Literacy

In Literacy this week we have been doing a descriptive piece of writing on Wall- E. On Tuesday we were planning what we were going to write. Each table got given a piece of A3 paper and wrote lots of openers like evil prankster, personification, sounds, vocabulary, similies and wow words. We also prepared for our big write on Thursday by writing sentences with personification used in them. They also had to be about buildings in the city and other things such as bridges, dust and train tracks.

Maths

In Maths we have been doing adding and subtracting 9 and 11 from numbers and decimals. If we were adding 9 we would add 10 then taking away 1, if we were adding 11 we would add 10 then add 1. We have also been using written methods to add two numbers together or decimals. We have also been solving word problems like ‘If john lives 74 km away from work and Betty lives 16 km further than john, how far away from work does Betty live?’ (90 km.)

Science

In Science we have been doing lots about the Sun the Earth and the Moon. We have been doing about day and night and how the Earth spins on an axis which causes light to only shine on one side of the Earth at one time!

NSPCC

In assembly this week we have had a visitor in who told us all about the NSPCC and she has given every class an exciting challenge of doing a sponsored maths test! When you get a certain amount of sponsors you get a special badge, they come in different colours like blue, purple and yellow. I hope everybody enjoyed seeing the mascot Buddy the speech bubble!
