Before we look forward to what is another busy week at RTS I would like to thank everyone who supported our poppy display marking the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One. Our service of remembrance was held last Friday and our period of silent reflection was beautifully kept by every child. The display will remain in the hall for at least the next week, please pop in and have a look. I have added a photograph below. We will end our period of remembrance on Thursday when the children from year 5/6 attend a very special service being held at Christchurch on the Stray for school children from across Harrogate. Our beautifully decorated glass jars have been displayed at St Wilfred’s Church this weekend in what made a very moving display of remembrance.

Thank you to everyone who has returned their parental questionnaires, the response has been very good and incredibly positive. We are working our way through the completed forms to look at some of the suggestions made.

This week Monday morning starts with Mr Glynn Fidgeon delivering Judo taster sessions to children in key stage two

On Tuesday after school starting at 6.30pm we will be hosting our reading information evening for new parents in the Hall, it is a great way to learn the tips that will help you to support your child as a developing reader; Refreshments will be available and I hope many of you can attend.

After school on Wednesday our year 5/6 footballers will be attending week 2 of the football event at Harrogate High School, like week one this will take place in the sports hall.

Thursday is the busiest day of the week; in the morning the children from Year 5/6 will be walking to Christchurch on the Stray to take part in one of two services taking place for over 1000 children from across Harrogate to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of world war one; I would be really grateful if all of the children participating could bring a coat to school on this day. Also on that morning we welcome the children from St John’s Playgroup who will be coming down to school to use our field.

In the afternoon it is our annual bookfair, further information will be sent out to parents this week about this event. All of the children will be given the opportunity to look at the books prior to Thursday. After school on Thursday is week 2 of our chess club led by Mick Stokes.

Friday is Children in Need day at RTS. We are hoping for a visit from Pudsey Bear himself at some point in the morning. During the day the children will all be given the opportunity to make the picture of Pudsey out of pennies and copper coins. This is always great fun and raises a total for the charity without asking parents for a large donation; start looking out for those pennies down the side of the sofa now.

On Friday children from KS2 will be taking part in the Harrogate School’s TAG Rugby Tournament at Harrogate Rugby Club. Friday is also the day when our NSPCC sponsor money will be collected by Louisa from the charity.

Friday afternoon from 2.30pm the Friends prayer group will meeting in the staff room, all are welcome to join.

Finally, an important message re the nativity this year. The performances will be on Monday 10th and Wednesday 13th December, the Tuesday performance has moved to Monday. Apologises for the change in this date, the start times remain unchanged.

Photos below include our poppy display, yellow jumper winners, a peek at the new entrance under construction and our Wednesday footballers.
