It is already the start of the 2nd week back and it feels like we have never been away. It was lovely to see the new starters from Airedale Class last week and this week we will welcome the reception children for Bishopdale Class.

Last Sunday was Education Sunday and I would like to thank all of the children who helped to lead the Sunday Service at St John’s Church. The Church was full of children, parents, governors and staff both past and present and it was a lovely start to the year. This year we are going to try to send an article to the church magazine so that everyone on the community can know what is happening at school.

This week sees the start of many of our music lessons and on Tuesday Simon will be leading his first full worship of the year.

On Monday after school starting at 7pm is the first friends meeting of the year. It is a great opportunity to be involved in the life of the school and there are jobs great and small for everyone. The meeting will be in the staffroom and I look forward to seeing you there.

Mr Mark Ward continues to battle the elements and his boat made of plastic bottles as he sails from York to Whitby to raise funds for the school. Everyone at school is in awe of his determination and skill and I am pleased to announce that he has made it to the end of the Humber Estuary and is turning north to Whitby.

It is not too late to support his amazing journey by donating on the just giving page see the following link

I have also been asked by Nick Woods our local PCSO to highlight the issue of mobile phone theft. There have been a couple of incidents where teenagers have had mobile phones taken from them. The police are very aware of the situation and ask everyone to help them by staying alert and following sensible safety measures with mobile phones.

The photographs below show Mr Ward on his incredible journey and the children who led last Sunday’s worship at St Johns.
