Last week was a very busy one for everyone in school; our reading week was a great success. We also managed a maths afternoon for parents in Swaledale and Nidderdale, a reading evening for our new starter parents and we even managed to build some fantastic snowmen. Special thanks to all of the staff who worked so hard to prepare and deliver these extra events.

We start Monday with a special celebration of performance poetry. Every class is going to come together and perform poems to each other as part of our focus on reading. After school the Friends will be holding their final film night of the term for the children in KS2

On Tuesday we welcome Dr Murray from St Aidan’s who will be talking to Ribblesdale and Dentdale Classes about the Great Fire of London.

Wednesday is the busiest day of the week with Dentdale and Swaledale Classes meeting one of the farmers who supplies vegetables for our school dinners as part of Mellors ‘Meet the Grower’ project. At the same time Rev Andy Patrick will be visiting Wensleydale where he will be helping them to write prayers on the theme of our values as part of their RE curriculum. After school children from year 5/6 will be taking part in 7 a-side football matches at HHS organised by Dave Moss and his Sporting Success team.

On Thursday it is the first session of the ICT after school club.

Friday is the annual Children in Need Day with the school building its Pudsey Pennies picture. All the children need is to bring in a handful of copper coins to help build the picture of Pudsey. We are hoping that Pudsey will be making an appearance at some point in the morning. Also on Friday the children from Wharfedale and Wensleydale will be having another of their dance classes with Mrs Zealand.

Finally I would like to congratulate Coverdale Class and especially Lily Clarke for the fantastic job they did in planning and holding a special cake sale on Thursday in aid of the National Autistic Society. The event raised £220 which is an amazing total.

The photos below show our stars of the week as well as fun in the snow.
