Before we look ahead to the last week of this half term we need to celebrate the success of our mental maths team who were awarded the prize for showing the best teamwork at the Harrogate Schools Mental Maths Challenge held at the Grammar School last Friday. The team made up of Lucy Shaw, Chloe Blackburn, Lucy Everson and Emma Craig performed brilliantly and represented the school wonderfully well.

I am also pleased to announce that our year 5/6 rugby team have qualified for the finals, which take place on 24th February at Harrogate Rugby Club.

The weather next week looks very much as if it is going to be wintery; please look out for text updates and remember to stay on gritted pathways when coming to school. Coats are going to be essential for all children.

Next week begins with the first group of children from Wharfedale and Wensleydale taking part in the Bikeability programme at school. The programme runs over two days and teaches the children the skills needed to cycle safely.

Tuesday is Internet Safety Day and all week children will be learning ways of staying safe online. The community ambassadors will be meeting in the afternoon on Tuesday to plan Fairtrade Fortnight activities.

After school the friends will be holding their spring term disco in the hall.

Wednesday is week six of the Harrogate Drama Club after school.

Thursday is an important day for the children in Coverdale who will be taking part in the first Space Camp of this year in school. We are all hoping for a clear night which will allow the stars and planets to be seen in the night’s sky.

Friday is the day of the school’s Valentines Lunch and after school chess club week three.

I hope that everybody has a wonderful half term and I look forward to seeing you when school reopens on 24th February.

The photos below are the yellow jumper wearers from last week and the year 5 trip to the council chamber.

Please look out for some more wonderful photographs from the year 5 trip to the council offices last week, which can be found on the school’s website.
