Educational Visits & Learning Outside The Classroom

Every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances. These often the most memorable learning experiences, help us to make sense of the world around us by making links between feelings and learning. They allow us to transfer learning experienced outside the classroom and visa versa.

Learning outside the classroom is about raising achievement through an organised, powerful approach to learning in which direct experience is of prime importance. This is not only about what we learn but importantly how and when we learn.

At Richard Taylor Primary School, our pupils are given a wide range of opportunities to learn outside the classroom.  We make full use of our fantastic outdoor environments, including our fantastic wildlife garden. Each class will usually undertake at least one trip per school year; this will be linked to the topic of study within the classroom.  Further details can be obtained from the school office or your child’s teacher.

Residential trips take place in upper Key Stage Two.   We visit Winmarleigh Hall, a Victorian estate set in 50 acres of gardens, parkland and woodland in Lancashire, further information about these trips can be obtained from the school office or your child’s teacher.


Extra Curricular Clubs

We organise a wide choice of activities run during the school week, including a mixture of artistic, sporting and musical clubs.  These are run by a combination of coaches, teaching and support staff.

These are free and open to specific year groups starting with children in Year 1. A list of clubs operating, who runs them, on what days and for how long is published each term. A list is given to every child. All Club requests must be returned to the school office.  Parents will be informed if their child has a place, please check with the office before leaving your child.

All of these activities are organised voluntarily by teaching staff who are committed to providing the widest range of experience for the children at RTS to enjoy.
