Key Stage 2

Our children are from both years 5 and 6, and our teacher is Mr Starkey.  Our teaching assistants are Mrs Clarke and Mrs Pears.

In Wharfedale, we always try our best, work hard and respect each other according to the school mission statement and our school values. Our values help us decide on our Class Charter at the start of the year to help us be successful learners and make Wharfedale a fabulous place to be!

We really enjoy PE and throughout the year, we have the opportunity to represent the school in many different sporting activities.   In Wharfedale class, we are keen to keep active and understand its importance as being one of the five ways to well-being.   In addition, as part of the Active 30:30, there are opportunities in the day for us to run, exercise and keep moving.

Because we are the oldest members of the school, we also have the opportunity to be a buddy to our new starters in Reception, supporting them as they begin their journey in their first year here.

Our first topic is called ‘Wonder’ using the book of the same name written by R J Palacio.  Not only does the book teach us how important it is to be kind and respectful to others (one of our school values), but it is also useful to support our learning in other curriculum areas.  As the year progresses, our other topic areas are Harry Potter and Survivors.  We are sure you have heard about Harry Potter – we use parts of the book and the film in our learning across the curriculum.  ‘Survivors’ is a book about how different people, through their determination, quick thinking and knowledge, have overcome adversity.

Throughout the year, we go on trips to link our learning to outdoor experiences.

At the end of the year, the year 6s look forward to our residential visit to Winmarleigh Hall and then finally, we perform our wonderful school production.
