This week sees the school begin its celebration of the season of Advent. Every class window will display a candle as part of the Harrogate Churches project #the light shines. See the information below. We are inviting everyone in the school community to join in by creating a candlelight image and placing it in their window. If you can send us a photo we will put them all together on our website. This replaces the advent candle lit procession that we would normally hold this week.

The friends of the school have been working hard with Emma James the youth worker from St Luke and St John’s to prepare a special prayer bag for every child in the school (see image below) they have been stored in school over the weekend and will be distributed on Monday. Please take the time to talk about the prayer bag with your child; they will need your help with some of the activities. I would like to thank everyone who participated in the design and creation of the bags and hope you enjoy them over the 4 weeks of Advent. Airedale will receive their bags on the 8th December.

Well done to everyone from Niddedale and Swaledale Classes who held a brilliant Victorian Day last week. One of the photos below shows some of the children dressed up for the day.

This week would have seen the annual Christmas Fair on Friday. Instead of this event every class in the school will be holding is own chocolate tombola ‘lucky dip’ event on Friday. All of the chocolate donated last Friday has been securely stored and will not be touched until next Friday.

The children from Airedale class have begun their virtual learning, including the opportunity to listen to a story from Miss Young every day at 3pm. If you are a parent who is struggling to access any element of the online learning please let us know and we will be there to help.

A final message of thanks for everyone playing their part in helping us to keep everyone safe. As the last weeks of the autumn term approaches and the Christmas window approaches we ask everyone to continue to be careful and cautious. If you or your child shows any symptoms don’t send them to school, get a test and protect you class bubble.

Please look out for the next newsletter which will come out this week and will have exciting news on the school’s participation in the local Long Lands Environmental project.

St Johns’ Church is still hoping to host a socially distanced Christingle Service. The Christingle service will be on Sunday 13th December at 5pm in St John’s and there will be an Eventbrite booking system for the service as well as live streaming on the day. If you want to learn more about the meaning behind the Christingle click on the link below.
