Dear Parents

Spring Newsletter 2

Friends News

Thank you to everyone who came to the Friends meeting. It was great to see so many parents giving up their time to support the work of the school. The fantastic work of the Friends last term has allowed us to complete phase one of the improvements to the Early Years play area. The Christmas Fair fundraising has allowed us to replace a number of worn out laptops and increase the number of laptops available for the children to use.

If you want to get involved and help with the work of the Friends you can contact them on the following email address: friendsofrichardtaylor@gmail.com

Upcoming events this term include:-

Cake Sale

Movie Nights

Spring Term Disco

Sponsored Bunny Bounce

Bed Race News

The Friends are hoping to enter a team into the famous Knaresborough Bed Race which takes place this year on Saturday 11th June 2016. They are looking for parent volunteers who can help with organising sponsorships and decorating the bed. If you can help, please let the Friends know via their email address or via the school office. The Friends would like a Year 6 volunteer to sit on the bed. Please let the office know if this would be of interest to you/your child by completing the slip below.

Uniform Bank

Thank you to all the Friends who help to organise the sale of the second hand uniform. Dates for the next Uniform Bank will be sent out by text message.

St. John’s Panto

The congregation of St. John’s, which includes many parents and governors, will be performing the pantomime ‘Cinderella’ on Thursday 4th February and Friday 5th February. Tickets are still available for Thursday’s performance and can be bought from the school office – Adults £7 and Children £4.

Mrs Richardson

It is with real sadness that I write to inform you of Mrs Richardson’s decision to retire from her post as a support worker for children in Key Stage 2. Mrs Richardson had been unwell before Christmas and has decided that now is the right time to step down. Mrs Richardson has been a dedicated and talented member of staff who cared deeply for all of the children in her care and she will be missed by staff and children alike.

The school is lucky to have Mrs Pears, another highly talented member of staff, who has increased her hours during the first half of the Spring Term.

The school said a proper farewell to Mrs Richardson during a worship time on Friday 22nd January.

Internet Safety

The safety of children online is an increasing priority in the modern technological world. Childnet International is a very useful and informative starting point for finding out more about staying safe online. www.childnet.com/resources will provide you with a huge number of useful resources. We will also be getting involved with Safer Internet Day on 9th February 2016.

Sports News

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 swimming squad who participated in the regional Swimming Gala on Monday 18th January. They did a wonderful job and came a very creditable second place. Thank you to Mrs Saunderson and Mrs Warburton for organising and taking the team.

Also this week, our Year 3/4 athletics team took part in the Sports Hall Athletics Competition at Rossett Sports Centre, on Tuesday 19th January. They worked very well as a team and came in fourth place. Thanks to Mr Starkey for accompanying the team to the event.

School Dinners

If a school dinner has been ordered in the morning for your child but they become ill and go home before lunchtime, the school dinner will still have to be charged to your child’s account.

Christmas Lotto

The winner of the Sainsbury’s vouchers also won a box of Bettys goodies but this is unclaimed. Please collect it from the school office.

Christingle

Donations at the Christingle Services and from the children of Richard Taylor School raised the fantastic sum of £557.62 enabling The Children’s Society to continue its valuable work with vulnerable children in the UK. Many thanks Lynne Stott.

Our Values

At school we promote the core values which we have agreed make our community special. They are at the heart of our themes for worship with forgiveness being the value which we are promoting this half term. One of the ways we promote these values is to present children with a leaf on our values tree when someone nominates them for demonstrating a particular value in school. Our values are friendship, trust, determination, sportsmanship, peace, forgiveness, responsibility and service.

We would really like to know of examples of the children showing these values at home. If you have an example of your child showing one of these values we would love to hear about it. All you need to do is write your child’s name on the leaf and give an example of the value which they have shown. All examples returned will be shared and displayed on our Friendship Tree.
